Patients in Coventry may think they are seeing double after University of Warwick medical student Yasmine Darwazeh graduated last week to join her identical twin sister to work as a doctor at University Hospital Coventry.

Yasmine graduated in this summer's Graduation celebrations as a junior doctor, one year after her sister Sasha graduated from the same MB ChB course at Warwick Medical School. Sasha already works as a junior doctor at University Hospital Coventry and her sister will also take up a position there in August.

The 26 year olds originally from Rugeley in Staffordshire, both dreamt of becoming doctors but decided initially to follow different interests. Yasmine applied for the Warwick Teach First, which led to a job teaching Science for two years. In contrast, Sasha became a sensory scientist at Cadburys for a year and later applied for Medical School commencing in 2009.

Yasmine said: “We have already studied a degree in Medical biochemistry together so we’ve studied side by side and apart and it’s been great to be able to turn to Sasha for help if I have needed to”.

“I have had not only the support of my sister, but someone who understands what has been expected from me in order to be successful on this course. Now my sister gets to watch me graduate from the same university and that really is the icing on the cake”.

Yasmine will be working in the gastroenterology department at UHCW and Sasha will continue her work in paediatrics.

Sasha said: “With Yasmine working in the same hospital as me I am sure we will end up seeing much more of each other again.”

Yasmine added: “We could end up with some of the same work friends too which is nice!”
