Prof Richard Aldrich talks spies on Channel 4's Spying on the Royals

Professor Richard Aldrich, of the University of Warwick’s Department of Politics and International Studies, has spoken to Channel 4 for Spying on the Royals, a new documentary series about how the British govermnet spies targeted Edward VIII, Wallis Simpson and George VI.

New evidence reveals the extent of the surveillance, who ordered it, and the unique insights it provided into the royal scandal.

"The government has maintained that it does not intercept or tap royal communications - this episode turns history on its head", says Professor Aldrich, author of the author of the Black Door: Spies, Secret Intelligence and British Politics.

"This is not the intelligence agenices acting alone, this is not spies acting as rogue elephants. This comes from the very centre of power."
