Hundreds of sixth form students from across Coventry and Warwickshire interested in working with computers are being invited to a special conference on Wednesday.

Around 230 students will descend on the University of Warwick campus to find out more information about the huge range of degree courses in a computing-related subjects on offer in the UK. Staff and students from both the University of Warwick and Coventry University will be hand to discuss courses with the students.

Experts from Warwick’s Computer Science department and WMG will be joined by Dr James Shuttleworth and other colleagues from Coventry University at the daylong Computing Your Future conference for a series of lectures and workshops designed to inform and inspire the students to apply for computer science degrees.

Companies, including Google and Blitz Games, will also be sending senior technical managers to the conference to help the youngsters discover the numerous opportunities open to them.

During the workshops the students will learn about associated careers such as Software Developer, Video Games Programmer and Technology Consultant, find out more about the ever-changing technologies like mobile phone graphics and hear from lecturers and students about the wide variety of courses on offer at universities.

Event organiser Dr Steve Russ said: “We desperately need imaginative, inspired youngsters to ensure we use computing to enhance human life and experience and not to diminish it.

“With education expanding worldwide we might expect in the coming decades even greater revolutions associated with computing than we have seen in recent decades. Youngsters today, if they choose the path now, could become the world-leading researchers, and senior managers of global computing technology companies in 2040.”
