Youngsters will be able to enjoy remote-controlled robots and get the chance to make their own racing car at a free event at the University of Warwick this month.

The WMG Academy for Young Engineers is holding a Taster Event on Saturday 29 June at the University’s Digital Laboratory. Visitors can drop in anytime from 10am until 4pm.

 A range of employers including Jaguar Land Rover and National Grid will be setting up stalls with some great interactive games. Visitors can make cardboard cars and race them on a track, have a go at computer-aided design, find out how acoustic cameras work and get their hands on some of the latest automotive technology.

The WMG Academy is a new school, opening in September 2014, for 14-19 year olds with a passion for engineering. The Academy will turn traditional methods of learning on their head and instead pupils will be taught the curriculum through the application of real-life engineering problems.

At the taster event, youngsters and their parents can drop in to take a tour of facilities that students would be using at WMG, including the Virtual Reality Design Suite.

Director of the WMG Academy Richard Hutchins said: “We want young people and their families to come along to our taster event and find out more about the academy. It will be a great day out and they get the chance to see some of the really exciting and innovative things we are doing here. The WMG Academy will be a fantastic hotbed of talent, technology, business and innovation...a real draw to getting young people excited about industry.”
