Science on Show at Warwick

Liquid nitrogen icecreamYoung science explorers from across the region will be able to sit in a submarine, search the skies for stars and use physics and chemistry to make ice-cream at the University of Warwick’s Science Gala this month.

The free public event, which takes place on Wednesday 31 January, aims to open the doors of some of the scientific facilities at Warwick, and offer a hands-on experience for children and young people, their teachers and families, as well as anyone interested in finding out more about science and technology.

Organiser, Natacha Borrel, said: “It’s going to be an evening highlighting inspiring careers and exciting science. Visitors will be able to get involved in activities and hands-on demos like the smoothie bike, making ice-cream with liquid nitrogen, and a student-built submarine.

“As well as chatting to professors, staff and students at the University and learning about exciting careers in science, you’ll also be able to visit our Planetarium, explore some of our science laboratories and a go on a virtual tour of ATLAS at CERN. We’ll even provide a free burger and a drink.”

As well as projects from science departments across the University of Warwick, the event will also host exhibits and workshops from the National Physical Laboratory, Flux Dance and the Royal Chemical Society.

The event runs from 17.00 until 20.30 on Wednesday 31 January in the Science Concourse at the University of Warwick’s main campus.
