A delegation of senior staff from the University of Warwick are visiting Delhi this week to celebrate the University’s links with India. The University has organised a series of events to coincide with the 60^th anniversary of Indian independence this year.

Warwick’s Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift and Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Director of the Warwick Manufacturing group (WMG) will address members of the Confederation of Indian Industry in New Delhi and Bangalore on the emerging trends in university education and India as a knowledge partner. These events have been organised by WMG and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

On Thursday 11^th October, Commissioners from the University of Warwick’s “Warwick Commission” will run a special session of the Commission to consult with Indian trade experts, business leaders and policy makers. The “Warwick Commission” is a panel of international experts convened by the University of Warwick to conduct a year long examination of the global trading system and tasked with making recommendations about its future shape and direction.

On Thursday evening an invited audience of trade experts will be addressed by Professor Nigel Thrift,  Shri Anwarul Hoda, member of the Planning Commission of the Government of India, and members of the Warwick Commission; Dr Patrick Low of the World Trade Organization and Shri Pradeep Mehta of CUTS International. This will be followed by a Reception for Indian alumni of the University of Warwick and other invited guests.

These events reflect the University’s links with India and demonstrate its wish to develop a broader relationship in the future. Three hundred Indian students are currently studying at Warwick. This includes engineering student, Arvind Aradhya, who has had the world’s media focused on him after wining a place at the University of Warwick through the recent Scholar Hunt television programme on NDTV .The University now has over 1500 Indian alumni including Ness Wadia of Bombay Dyeing group and Lakshmi Srinivasan of TVS Motor Company.

The Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), directed by Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, has long standing excellent links with India, formed through extensive collaborative relationships across businesses of all sizes from international companies such as Tata Group and Bharat Forge through to a range of Indian SMEs.
