Whilst for many the Olympic Games is still a few months away, for the University of Warwick the 2012 Games have officially begun.

Designated an Official Training Venue for Olympic Football, the University of Warwick will be visited by representatives of the participating nations this week for an inspection of the FIFA accredited pitches and the team facilities at the sports pavilion.

Both Senegal and Oman’s football teams trained at the University over the weekend in preparation for the LOCOG Test Event which took place this week. Now work begins in earnest to prepare for this summer’s visitors.

Director of Physical Education and Sport at the University, Terry Monnington said: “I am extremely confident that every representative is going to be hugely impressed by the very high standard of our facilities.

“At the University of Warwick, we work with professional football teams, the FA and the Premier League on a regular basis and whilst this is an unusual event for us, in that we’ll be handing over our facilities completely to LOCOG, we are extremely flattered that the Olympic Committee and LOCOG have found our sports facilities to be of an Olympic standard.”
