In two years the University of Warwick has almost trebled its uptake of the Chevening Scholarship aimed at developing global leaders with 59 new International Chevening Scholars starting their studies at the University of Warwick. The biggest increase comes in WMG which has welcomed 21 of the new scholars.

Coming to the University of Warwick from 34 countries, including six students from Cambodia and 12 from Indonesia and attending 10 different academic departments, the new intake of Chevening scholars represent a 78% overall increase from 2015/16 and a 293% increase from 2014/15.

Chevening Scholarships are one of the UK’s global scholarship scheme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and aimed at developing global leaders. The programme helps students from all around the world study at universities such as the University of Warwick; which has been placed in the top 10 universities in the UK by The Guardian and The Times, and is in the top 100 universities on the QS World Rankings and the THE World Rankings.

The scholarships are designed for individuals with the potential to become decision makers.

Reflecting on Warwick’s success in attracting Chevening scholars Professor Stuart Croft, Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick, said:

Commenting on his Chevening Scholarship Berry Elen, an Indonesian student studying logistics at WMG, said;

“Chevening is one of the best scholarship schemes in the world, with a very impressive and wide networking channel. Achieving it was a milestone in my life, as the scholarships are very competitive. I chose to study at WMG, the University of Warwick because it is known for its close relation to industry, and it always stays in the top 100 universities in the world.”

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Chairman of WMG, said:

“WMG is a truly global department and to have 21 Chevening Scholars studying with us from 14 different countries shows our impact. I wish them well in their studies and in their future leadership roles.”
