Warwick Podcasts scoops Gold

The University of Warwick’s podcast programme has won a gold at the West Midlands Chartered Institute of Public Relations PRide Awards.

Podcasts have become an integral part of the way in which Warwick communicates with its students, staff and general public. The programme won first place in the best use of Photography, Design or New Media category.

Tom Abbott, who leads the Warwick Podcast programme, said: “It’s great to have your work appreciated in this way. We have a forward-looking team and management who were quick to grasp the value of Podcasts as a communications tool.

“The trick now will be for us to stay at the front of the pack, and always be seeking and embracing new ways of talking to our audiences.”

Warwick University has already launched the Warwick iCast internet video service. University press officer Richard Fern said: “Podcasts have proved enormously popular. I trained and worked as print journalist, so it’s been fascinating to work with these emerging technologies, and be at the forefront of what I believe to be radical change in the press officer’s traditional role.”
