Warwick praised by Government watchdog for quality of teaching and learning

The University of Warwick has been praised by Government watchdog the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for engaging undergraduate students in original research.

The QAA has just published its latest Audit Report on the quality of teaching and learning at the University. Warwick’s Reinvention Centre, which promotes research-based teaching and funds undergraduates to carry out original research, was just one of the facilities highlighted as an area of good practice.

The QAA also commended the level of student representation at the University. Warwick has student representatives present on the Senate, Council and Steering committees, as well as an active Student-Staff Liaison Committee system.

The audit team also highlighted the student experience provided by the Centre for Lifelong Learning and the University’s commitment to opportunities for part-time students.

The Audit was carried out over three days in October and five days in November last year. Auditors spoke to 24 students from across the University and 35 members of staff.

The final report stated that the QAA had confidence in the academic standards of the awards offered at the University and the quality of learning opportunities available to students.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Michael Whitby, said he was very pleased with the outcome of the audit. He said: "It is a very positive report which reflects well on the quality of the education and experience offered by Warwick, something we can all be proud of."

Senior Assistant Registrar for Teaching Quality, Julian Moss, said he was delighted with the audit report. He said: “We are really pleased to see that our students value the teaching and learning opportunities here at Warwick. It is important that we equip our undergraduate and postgraduate students not only with a highly respected qualification, but also the skills they need to succeed in their future careers.”
