Professor Anna Gelpern

Professor Gelpern is an Associate Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law and a visiting fellow at the Peter G Peterson Institute for Economic Affairs. She earned an A.B. from Princeton University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also held legal and policy positions at the US Treasury Department between 1996 and 2002, where her work focused on international debt and development, financial crisis management and international financial institutions.

She was also an Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law-Newark and Rutgers University Division of Global Affairs between 2005 and 2009. While practising with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York and London, Professor Gelpern advised governments and other clients on the issues of debt restructuring, investment and cross-border financial transactions.

Professor Gelpern's research has been published in a wide range of Law Reviews and focuses on the legal and policy implications of international capital flows.
