Commissioner Hasan Bakhshi publishes report on the impact of live broadcasting on theatre attendance
25th June 2014
In a report for NESTA, Hasan Bakhshi and Andrew Whitby use data for the UK's early National Theatre (NT) Live broadcasts to explore the impact of live broadcasts on audience numbers at performing arts venues themselves. Using a new, extensive dataset of theatre ticket transactions for multiple theatre venues across England, and over a longer time period, they conclude that National Theatre Live is likely to have boosted local theatre attendance in neighbourhoods most exposed to the programme. The report is also an excellent illustration of the potential application of big data in the arts.
You can read the blog summarising the reports conclusions here and the full working paper is available to download here.
