HEAR: Specific Requirements - Additional Recognised Activities

The Additional Recognised Activities section refers to activities undertaken by students which demonstrate achievement but for which no recognition is provided in terms of academic credit.

Students’ Union

Society Executive positions

To have a Society Executive position listed on their HEAR a student:
  • Must have held an executive position (as recorded by the Students’ Union).
  • Must have held the position for > 6 calendar months
  • Must have been elected by other members of the society
  •  Position must have been open to all
Advice Centre Volunteer
To have SU Inspire Volunteer listed on their HEAR a student:
  • Must have acted as a volunteer in the Student Union's Advice Centre for a minimum period of six months

SU Inspire

To have SU Inspire Volunteer listed on their HEAR a student:
  • Must have taken part in at least one school engagement (which would normally include 2 single-day visits).
Part-time Student representatives

To have a part-time student representative position listed on their HEAR a student:
  • Must have held a formally recognised position – including Officers, Union Councillors and Committee/Forum Members. (as determined by the SU constitution)
  • Must have held position for >6 calendar months
  • Must have been elected as part of SU election processes
Sabbatical officers

To have a sabbatical officer position listed on their HEAR a student:
  • Must have held a formally recognised position – including Officers, Union Councillors and Committee/Forum Members. (as determined by the SU constitution)
  • Must have held position for >6 calendar months
  •  Must have been elected as part of SU election processes
SSLC

To have SSLC membership listed on their HEAR, a student:
  • Must be a member of an SSLC.
  • Must have held position for >6 calendar months
 
Student Trustees

To have a student trustee position listed on their HEAR, a student:
  • Must have been nominated for, and accepted, position of Student Trustee of the SU
  • Must have held position for >6 calendar months
One World Week Executive

To have a One World Week Executive position listed on their HEAR, a student must have:
  • Been a member of the One World Week Executive/coordination team as selected by interview.
  •  Held this position for >6 months
Warwick Student Art Fair Executive

To have a Warwick Student Art Fair Executive position listed on their HEAR, a student must have:
  • Been a member of the Warwick Student Art Fair Executive/coordination team as selected by interview.
  •  Held this position for >6 months

Warwick Sport

1. Sports Club - Executive Positions

To have a sports club executive position listed on the HEAR a student has:
  • held an executive position for 1 year .
2. Sports – Full Colours  

Students awarded full colours have:
  • Competed at a national representative level or higher, e.g. English Universities.
 3. Sports – Half Colours

Students awarded half colours have:
  • Competed at regional representative level e.g. Midlands Universities.
4. Sports – Club Colours

Students awarded club colours have:
  • been nominated by their Club exec for demonstrating outstanding commitment to the Club over three years.
  • had their nomination approved by Warwick Sport
5. Sports – Warwick Active Colours

Warwick Active is a programme designed to increase the engagement with sport opportunities at Warwick. Volunteers supporting the programme help to support the increase of Warwick Active sports opportunities for all, and will lead a ground-breaking sports project, help to engage high numbers of new participants, create a social and safe environment for all, whilst learning to maintain effective and inclusive sporting and social relationships.

Students awarded Warwick Active colours have:
  • Contributed a minimum of 10 hours volunteering for Warwick Active for a Bronze award.
  • Contributed a minimum of 20 hours volunteering for Warwick Active for a Silver award.
  • Contributed a minimum of 30 hours volunteering for Warwick Active for a Gold award.
6. Sports Committee Members

Students who have been a sports committee member have:
  • Been voted to this position by the Sports Council
  • Held this position for at least 1 academic year.

7. Sports Scholarships
To have this achievement recognised on the HEAR a student must:
  • have been awarded a sports scholarship and fulfilled and additional requirements pertaining to the receipt of the award, as set out by Warwick Sport.

Warwick Volunteers

Warwick Volunteers support community volunteering projects in the local area. Students who have given a certain time commitment to a project(s) are awarded with a certificate. This certificate recognises the hours of volunteering completed which could include hours spent in the position of project leader or as a Warwick Volunteers Student Executive.  Further information about Warwick Volunteers can be found here .

Warwick Volunteers certificate recipients have:
  • Taken part in a volunteering activity linked to Warwick Volunteers.
  • Completed more than 20 hours community volunteering in an academic year. This can include up to 3 different roles in the year.
  • Undertaken the activity in the local community e.g. Coventry, Leamington or Kenilworth.
  • Recorded a log of each activity (date, hrs, what they did etc.) and had this verified.

  

Warwick Volunteers Certificate recipients who have been a project leader have:
 
  • Met the requirements of a Warwick Volunteers certificate recipient as above
  • Taken on the responsibility of project leader for one or more of the organisations that they have volunteered for.
  • Been selected to the position of project leader through interview.
  • Held this position for at least 6 months.

 

Warwick Volunteers Certificate recipients who have held a Warwick Volunteers Executive position have:
 
  • Met the requirements of a Warwick Volunteers certificate recipient as above
  • held an executive position (as recorded by Warwick Volunteers)
  • held the position for > 6 calendar months
    Note that all Warwick Volunteers Executive positions are open to all.

 

Warwick Volunteers Award recognises student volunteers nominated by a community partner/beneficiary of their volunteering, another volunteer or a member of Warwick Volunteers staff.

 

Awards are given for students outstanding in one or more of the following areas:

  • Leadership: Students may have run their own volunteering project or taken a lead on a committee or the organisation and delivery of other volunteering events. These students will have been responsible for guiding other students, as well as being a team player and volunteering themselves.
  • Innovation: Students who have challenged the status quo in order to make a positive difference in the community. These students will have taken the initiative to affect change for the causes they care about.
  • Dedication: This is an opportunity to reward the most committed and hardworking of volunteers who may not be at the forefront of running projects but can be relied on continually. Being an inspiration to other volunteers, these students show loyalty and passion towards their volunteering.
  • Impact: Students who have had a proven impact through volunteering and social action: affecting real change for the people and causes they serve. These students will have shown dedication to making things happen; not just in the short term, but with a sustainable vision for the future.

Warwick Skills Portfolio Award


The Undergraduate Skills and Masters Skills Programmes at Warwick offer students a range of workshops which are designed to enable them to develop their academic, personal and professional skills. Students that actively engage in either of the Skills Programmes and personal development whilst at Warwick can gain a formal recognition for their development outside of their course and discipline – Warwick Skills Portfolio Award (WSPA). More information about WSPA can be found here.

Warwick Skills Portfolio Award recipients have:
  • Attended or engaged in three eligible activities and enrolled on the “Getting Started on the WSPA” Moodle course. Eligible activities include skills workshops, several Library schemes, enterprise programmes, Sprint programme, Intercultural training, volunteering and others. Full list of eligible activities can be found and selected from here.
  • Within one week of completing each activity produced an action plan with several key action points to implement within the 6-8 weeks following the activity.
  • In the 6-8 weeks following each activity produced three reflective entries per each activity, summarising their progress against their action plan.
  • Engaged with a dedicated WSPA Coach online via WSPA Moodle. Coaches help with reflective entries, mentor students in their development and guide students to portfolio and WSPA completion.
  • After completing all activities and reflective entries, written a final completion entry, reflecting on their overall learning, development and achievement gained from the activities.
  • Completed the award generally in a four term period.
 

 

Undergraduate Research Support Programme (URSS)

The URSS scheme aims to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain an insight into research work and develop transferable skills. The scheme is open to students from all disciplines and in all years. Applications for research projects are made by a lead academic supervisor and combined with the student application (or group of students). More information about the URSS scheme is available here .

URSS Award recipients have:
  • Been successful in their application to the Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS).
  • Completed their research project over a period of at least 6 weeks
  • Submitted a project summary and personal reflective report focusing on their wider learning (transferrable skills)
  • Produced a poster of their research findings which is displayed at the Awards Ceremony.
 

 

Lord Rootes Memorial Fund (LRMF)

The Lord Rootes Memorial Fund (LRMF) encourages the personal development by evaluating and financially supporting challenging projects proposed by individual and groups of Warwick students, especially projects demonstrating:

  • creativity of thought, passion, and the development of an original and personal idea or objective, and;
  • planning and execution of a personally, physically, culturally, environmentally, commercially or scientifically challenging task

Where the LRMF Committee adjudges a project and the subsequent report to be of outstanding calibre, an additional award of £250-£500 may be made to the student(s).

To have Lord Rootes Memorial Fund award included on their HEAR, a student must have:
  • Applied for and been awarded LRMF funding, via a competitive process, for a project of their own design and aimed at supporting their own personal development;
  • Completed the project and submitted the report to the LRMF Committee in the November following completion of the project;
  • Submitted a project report which is judged to be satisfactory by the LRMF Committee and approved by the LRMF Trustees.  

It is taken as read that the completion of a project and reporting cycle that extends beyond the HEAR cut-off date and graduation of the award holder will not be included in the student's HEAR.

Warwick in Africa

To have Warwick in Africa included on the HEAR, a student must have:
  • Students must have previous classroom teaching experience, subject knowledge in maths or English to A level standard or higher, voluntary experience and leadership skills demonstrated on their application and during the assessment centre to be successful;
  • Complete an evaluation report which includes testing the African learners for the development of the programme.

 

Warwick Laksh Programme

To have Warwick Laksh Programme included on the HEAR, a student must have:

  • Previous teaching experience, subject knowledge in Maths or English to A level standard or higher, voluntary experience and leadership skills, all demonstrated on their application and during assessment centre to be successful;
  • Attended all training sessions arranged and delivered by the Warwick Laksh Programme and its partners;
  • Taken part in and completed the 4-week placement, complying fully with the terms and conditions set out in the Programme's Code of Conduct guidelines;
  • Completed an evaluation form following on from their placement which will be used by the Programme Officer when completing the yearly evaluation and by the Programme Board to develop the programme further.
Institutional Review

To have the position of student panel member for a University of Warwick Institutional Review (Department or Faculty) listed on their HEAR, a student:
  • Must have been appointed as a member of the review panel; · Must have attended all relevant panel meetings;
  • Must have participated in panel discussions and contributed to the formulation of the panel’s findings in the Review Report.  


Intercultural Training for Studying and Working Abroad

This is offered to stsudents spending time abroad. It aims to increase intercultural communicative competence, resilience to change and uncertainty, and help develop fair and respectful ways of dealing with and reflecting on cultural difference.

To have this achievement listed on the HEAR, a student must:
  • Attend two workshops (initial and re-entry);
  • Complete the online module;
  • Submit a reflection on a concrete interculural experience whilst being abroad.
