Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module aims to: Provide opportunities for students to spend time in an Early Years setting abroad; Enable students to make informed comparisons between the way Early Years settings are organised at home and abroad; Help students understand the policies underlying the Early Years curriculum of another country; Deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of the way policy and practice complement each other in Early Years settings in another country; Provide opportunities for students to become familiar with the role and responsibilities of the Early Years Professional in another country; Allow students to study the role that multi-agency working plays within Early years settings in another country.

Principal learning outcomes

Although you may attend some lectures in your host institution during your time abroad, you will be spending several days a week in an Early Years setting. You may be grouped together in a setting or split into two groups in different settings. Please do not worry if you are divided into two groups, this will have been done because there are more of you than normal. It will also give you the opportunity to discuss differences in approach and to visit each other’s settings. This time in settings forms the main part of this module which is aimed at helping you get the most out of the experience.
