Module content and teaching

Principal aims

To introduce the concepts of measure and integral with respect to a measure and to discuss their basic properties, so as to provide a basis for further studies in Analysis, Probability, and Dynamical Systems.

Principal learning outcomes

To construct Lebesgue's measure on the real line; To construct the integral and discuss its basic properties; To explain the basic properties of measurable functions with emphasis on proofs by approximation.
