Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module provides a post-A level (or equivalent) entry for students wishing to progress through the Spanish pathway of the International Business degree, focussing on business and international affairs. It aims to strengthen reading and writing skills and reinforce the communicative skills acquired during previous study of the Spanish language. Focus will be put on understanding Hispanic social, economic and political issues to enable students to engage with native speakers when visiting a Spanish-speaking country and/or in a Spanish-speaking work environment.

Principal learning outcomes

The main learning objectives are: to enable students to communicate effectively at an advanced level in predictable and unpredictable situations likely to be met in work or study situations in a Spanish-speaking country; to help students improve accuracy of grammar and syntax and to familiarise them with essential reading techniques that will support further independent study of the written language.

Timetabled teaching activities

3 hours language classes each week, plus at least 3 hours structured independent learning each week. Commencing Term 1, week 2.
