Principal aims

This module aims to provide: A wide-ranging introduction to the issues raised through a cultural political economy of sport An overview of the various literatures and major debates in the different sub-fields of the subject The theoretical and empirical tools needed to understand, explain and critically assess different perspectives of sport and its cultural political economy

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module, you should be able to: Locate the critical study of sport within broader debates concerning international and cultural political economy Critically assess and communicate authoritatively, both orally and in writing, the principal methodological, conceptual and theoretical issues raised through a study of the cultural political economy of sport Demonstrate an advanced knowledge and awareness of how different cultural, political and economic contexts combine to provide the framework within which sport takes place Combine theoretical enquiry with empirical study to conduct and present high-quality scholarly analysis concerning the cultural, political and economic dimensions of sport
