Kellam, Colin

Born: 1942. Nationality: British.

Kellam studied sculpture and pottery at Loughborough College of Art in the late 1950s.

From 1960 to 1967 he worked as assistant to the highly regarded studio potter Marianne de Trey at Shinners Bridge Pottery, Dartington . Here he was involved in the production of successful lines of domestic stoneware, sold at Heal’s store and the Design Centre in London, but at the same time was able to develop his individual work.

In 1968 he left to set up his own pottery at the Lion Brewery in Totnes, Devon. As well as making tableware, Kellam produces a wide range of decorative items – large platters, lamp bases, tiles and garden pots. These are decorated with freely-drawn designs of birds, animals, fish and flowers, which also are the themes of his ceramic sculptures.
