Frans Kannik

Born in Copenhagen in 1949. Died 2011.

Kannik was largely self-taught though he trained as a screen printer in 1968 and studied calligraphy in Oslo between 1971 and 1974.

He was involved in a neo-expressionist, cooperative arts workshop in Copenhagen in the early 1980s. His work has almost entirely been dominated by figurative painting with the naked human form at the major theme. He often used materials such as blankets, corrugated cardboard, plastic, or vinyl in preference to the traditional stretched canvas.
