Hannah Starkey

Hannah Starkey is an acclaimed artist whose medium is photography for which she stages scenes of women, often solitary, engaged in daily routines: expressive and thought-provoking images which imply a variety of possible narratives, events or emotions.

She studied Photography and Film (B.A.1992) at Napier University, Edinburgh and Photography (M.A.1997) at the Royal College of Art, London.

Since 1998 she has been a prolific exhibitor of her work in numerous venues not only in the UK but throughout Europe and the USA. Seventeen of these exhibitions have been solo shows (including ‘Twenty-Nine Pictures’ at the Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre). Her work has been acquired by many major international collections. She has also attracted awards from various societies and organisations including The Sunday Times Award 1997, The Photographers Gallery Award 1997, the Tokyo Photo Biennale 1999, The Art Foundation 2000, The St John’s Group Photography Prize 2002 and Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society 2019.
