Mandy Lee Jandrell

Born in 1975 in South Africa, Jandrell moved to London in 1998. She completed an MA at Goldsmiths College in 2003 and was included in the Whitechapel Gallery's East End Academy in 2004. In the same year she received a commission from the Government Art Collection to produce a series of photographs for the Ante-Room of 10 Downing Street.

Jandrell explores the effects of the global spread of consumerism on culture, art and society; she shoots her photographs on location in popular local and international attractions in countries around the world. She has said that "when photographing places like theme parks, which exist within the realm of tourism, I wish to reintroduce some of the real by juxtaposing the fake environment with the reality not only outside its fence but the reality of people's interaction with the place". Her work makes reference to utopian dreams of a perfect world.
