Op Mobile No.10 by Nechemia Azaz

Op Mobile No.10 by Nechemia Azaz

Nehemia Azaz is the leading Israeli architectural sculptor. Azaz had no formal training but he has studied many different crafts in a variety of countries. Probably as a result of this diverse experience Azaz uses unconventional materials such as the aluminium tubes that are part of the dynamic Op Mobile No 10.

The sculpture recalls the shape of the wings of a hovering bird. It is suspended from the ceiling by a metal cable which is attached to a motor on the other side of the ceiling. The sculpture revolves six times every minute. One face is painted in reds, blues, pinks and purples, the other in oranges, yellow and greens.

The sculpture is typical of Azaz's work as it responds to the architecture of its surroundings. The mobile was made in the original colour scheme of Warwick Arts Centre, designed by Renton Howard Wood Levine in the 1970s. Op Mobile No 10 creates a perfect balance between the technical and the immaterial aspects of Azaz's work.
