Fire In The Heart by Peter Freeman
Accession Code: wu0760
Title: Fire In The Heart
Date completed: 2000
Medium: Sculpture
Material: Fibre optics, computer
Location Description:

Fire in the Heart uses fibre-optic technology to create an optical field of light, controlled by a computer programme to create a variety of different colour sequences. The title refers to a natural phenomenon called St Elmo's Fire, a kind of lightning that appears as a glow of sparks around the masts of sailing ships.

The artist Peter Freeman lives on the Penwith Peninsula in Cornwall, surrounded by the sea and sky. The colours within this sculpture are a response to this environment, where every hour of each day, light is reflected from the sea in breathtaking colour variations.
