Ray Richardson

Born 1964 in Woolwich, London.

He studied first at St Martin's School of Art before going on to Goldsmith's College studying there at the same time as Damien Hirst.

Richardson’s work explores the culture, locations and iconic characters of his native Southeast London. His paintings have been described as ‘cinematic’ or ‘filmic’, offering different viewpoints of places, incidents, glimpses of people in conversation, for instance, on canvases which are shaped to accommodate wide-angle views, full-screen closeups or other formats.

He has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe, the USA and Japan. Public collections which have acquired Richardson's work include: the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Pallant House Museum, Chichester, Isle of Man Government Collection, Kasen Summer Collection, Connecticut & New York, De Beers Diamond Trading Co., London and the Fondation Carmignac, Paris.
