Richard Wentworth

Born: 1947.

Richard Wentworth has become a significant and influential figure among British sculptors. He studied at Hornsey College of Art (1965-68) and the Royal College of Art (1968-70) and briefly worked for Henry Moore during the late 1960s.

He developed an approach to sculptural practice which makes ingenious and elegant use of found materials. Sometimes these may be single objects at other times they take the form of three dimensional collages of things or fragments, finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. They are often witty and they invariably prompt the viewer to see the world or daily experience in a different way.

Wentworth has exhibited widely and internationally and his work is found in many major collections. He is also a curator and an esteemed teacher, having lectured part-time at Goldsmith's College of Art and from 2009 to 20011 was the head of sculpture at the Royal College of Art.
