Autumn Exhibition 2011

Autumn Exhibitions: Mel Brimfield / Dickinson & McCarthy / Tom Hunter

Saturday 1 October - Saturday 10 December 2011

This Autumn we welcome to the Mead gallery interpretations of real and imagined histories from internationally acclaimed artists Mel Brimfield, Dickinson & McCarthy and Tom Hunter.

This is Performance Art sees artist Mel Brimfield's complex practice take a skewed and tangled romp throught the development of performance art, simultaneously revealing and inventing a rich history of collaboration between artists dancers, theatre makers, political activists and comedians.

Rod Dickinson & Tom McCarthy's Greenwich Degree Zero gives visitors to the Mead an opportunity to witness a multimedia installation about a would-be nineteenth century act of terrorism.

The third in this trio of exhibitions is Unheralded Stories, the latest series of photographs by Tom Hunter exploring his neighbourhood in Hackney through the imagery of iconic paintings. This is the first opportunity to see Unheralded Stories in a public space and sees Hunter weave the epic narrative tableaux of artists like Delacroix and Gericault into the east London landscape, to describe the local myths, covert struggles and secret dreams of its inhabitants.

Join us this Autumn and see these three artists toy with the truth - the work is tongue-in-cheek but with serious points to make about the creation of local legends and enduring myths.
