This is one element of the architectural adornments which Gillick was commissioned to design.  Like this, the University's example defies the usual characteristic of sculpture as something standing on the ground in favour of a form suspended above the viewer's head.  The space beneath is transfused with colour as light from above shines through the translucent panels.
