Blog: What do you think when you hear academic venue?

‘Academic Venue’ - what do you think when you hear it?

Once a niche proposition limited by the academic calendar, academic venues for conferences were thought to only offer basic accommodation, lecture theatres and refectory dining facilities, as a budget-friendly conference venue option.

Campus based venues have been significantly developed to redefine the term ‘academic venue’, and an academic environment can now be seen as an advantage and by no means a restriction.

This environment can offer strong academic links to compliment academic conferences and can also offer a distraction-free setting – something the commercial hotel can’t offer.

Perceptions vs reality

Accommodation - student digs or hotel-styled?

When you think of attending an academic venue for conferences for a 2 night stay, what do you think? Student halls of residences, box bedrooms, singles beds, shared bathrooms and dated décor?

Our training and conference centres offer 358 double hotel-styled bedrooms, with en suite bathrooms. When residing in our facilities, guests are spoilt for choice with both a room service and a pillow menu. For those looking for even more luxury, we also offer a range of upgrade packages where guests are able to enhance their stay with a VIP treatment.

Catering - canteen or fine dining?

Canteen catering, simple pre-cooked food, refectory dining? Think again, the food offer at Warwick Conferences is award-winning, locally sourced and accredited by the Soil Association. This means that where possible, our produce is chosen with a clear provenance supporting nearby local suppliers.

Our team of skilled chefs and varied force of hospitality operatives have also attended a range of insightful study tours designed to develop their expertise, whilst learning about upcoming food trends and service styles that can be applied to enhance our best practice internally. In addition to our spacious and stylish restaurants that can cater up to 225 delegates, our training and conference centres also offer intimate private dining experiences.

The added value of an academic venue

Our training and conference centres offer dedicated residential conference facilities that are available year round. Scarman and Radcliffe all offer flexible event and exhibition space, a large number of breakout spaces, coffee lounges with unlimited refreshments, executive boardrooms and a tiered lecture theatre for up to 130 delegates.

But what about the surrounding location?

Being located on the University campus, delegates are welcomed by a wealth of on-site facilities and amenities that only academic venues for conferences can offer all in a centralised location . From restaurant, bars, state-of-the-art sport facilities and a world leading arts centre, there’s plenty to keep delegates occupied during their downtime.

And if that’s not enough, our location in the heart of the midlands – Coventry city centre, Leamington Spa, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon, are just a short drive away – all full to the brim with a rich heritage and engaging attractions.
