Royal Mail

Important changes to Royal Mail Service.

Royal Mail has removed the use of coloured adhesive labels used for Special Delivery Guaranteed® and Royal Mail Signed For® products from 31st October 2022. In addition to the removal of the adhesive labels the recording of Special Delivery Guaranteed or Royal Mail Signed For items within dispatch books will no longer be necessary.

Airmail

We can send international letters and parcels from University departments at a fraction of the normal cost due to our bulk-buying power. All airmail needs to have your departmental stamp number on the front of all envelopes (not just the first envelope).

Special Deliveries

Royal Mail Special Delivery will guarantee your mail for either 1pm or 9am next working day. A maximum weight of 2 kilos applies to the 9am service. Please write on the envelope in the top left corner, either "RMSD" or "RMSD - 9:00 am".

Saturday delivery

There is also a Saturday Delivery option, for mail sent on Fridays. This is charged at £3.00 extra per item. Please write on the envelope "RMSD - Saturday Delivery".

How to send

Send the item with your normal post, but keep it separate from the rest of your mail so we can easilly see it. If you regularly send many items using either "RMSD" or "Recorded Delivery", please ring the postroom. We can send you a roll of labels and a record book so you can keep track of your shipments.

Prices and compensation

The service is a lot cheaper than using courier services, and the reliability of this service should outperform all other courier services. Compensation options up to £2,500 for loss or damage are available and there is optional consequential loss compensation available.
