Terms of Reference
- With delegated authority from the Senate, to make decisions about the approval of all new courses and modifications to existing approved courses of the University. This excludes non-credit bearing courses, short courses and CPD courses, which are managed at departmental level.
- To ensure the consideration of all course proposals is in accordance with agreed institutional expectations, timescales, and level of scrutiny.
- With delegated authority from the Senate, to make decisions about the discontinuation of provision.
- To make recommendations to the Academic Quality and Standards Committee (AQSC) on amending relevant regulation and/or policy, such as the Credit and Module Framework, and where required the introduction of new regulation, policy, or guidance to maintain the University’s quality oversight for example as required by the introduction of novel qualifications or delivery models.
- To ensure a definitive list of approved and discontinued courses, to include those being taught out, is maintained.
- To ensure members of the CPSP sub-groups receive annual training in the relevant role(s) and are informed of changes to processes, policies, and guidance when necessary.
Reporting Structure
The CPSP reports approval and discontinuation decisions to the Senate and the Academic Quality and Standards Committee on an annual basis. The Faculty Education Committees are informed of decisions on an annual basis. The Partnerships Committee is informed of approval and discontinuation decisions for collaborative provision at the next available Committee meeting.
The Partnership Committee recommends approval decisions to the CPSP for collaborative provision. The Chair of the CPSP will consider the recommendation when making an approvals decision.
The Apprenticeship Approval Group recommends approval decisions to the CPSP for apprenticeship provision. The Chair of the CPSP will consider the recommendation when making an approvals decision.
Colleagues in the following teams and areas are notified of approval decisions on an individual basis immediately after the decision has been communicated to the proposing academic department(s): Academic Resourcing Committee; Modules, Marks and Assessment; Faculty Directors of Administration; Immigration and Compliance; Marketing Communications and Insight; Student Recruitment Outreach and Admissions Service; Student Finance; Student Opportunity; Strategic Planning and Analytics, including Central Timetabling; Student Records.

Meetings
The CPSP meet to consider course proposals as required. To ensure the review of course proposals in a timely manner, this is typically coordinated via correspondence unless an in-person approval event is required.
The CPSP meet as appropriate to consider and/or develop policy relating to curriculum design and approval.
Recommendations to amend existing regulation or policy or introduce new policy as required and where appropriate, is submitted to the AQSC for consideration.
