ITS Responsibilities

Host server and storage advice

IT Services can provide assistance in specifying and implementing host servers

  • Advise which type of SAN storage is most suited to meet customer requirements.
  • Obtain advice from the SAN vendor where advanced configurations or specific performance requirements are requested
  • Provide advice on suitable hardware and operating systems for connection to the storage network which will be eligible for support by the SAN vendor and be approved by IT Services
  • Maintain a list of HBAs which are approved by ITS for connection to the storage network

System Maintenance

  • Maintain a list of HBAs which are approved by ITS for connection to the storage network
  • Apply routine updates to the SAN as required by the manufacturer to accommodate new hardware and be eligible for support by the supplier
  • Manage change requests through the ITS change request system on behalf of non-ITS customers. The Service Team will assess the impact of the change and inform the customer when the timing of the change has been approved

Routine service operations

As part of the routine operation of the service, IT Services will:

  • Publish quarterly reports detailing the volumes of storage (both in use and spare), and profiling key performance parameters
  • Manage a support contract with a supplier to maintain the SAN hardware and operation
  • Publish a long term plan to outline likely expansion and changes to the SAN storage service
