This year we invite you to think about who we are, who we want to be and how we embody, envision and create the university of the future.

How do we build transformational education? What innovative and creative learning, teaching and assessment practices are we developing in response to a changing world? Where are our experiences leading us, how are our identities changing, and how do we secure a strong and sustainable future?

We want to explore how our life and work makes the Warwick that we know and the Warwick that we strive for. We want to consider how identities and experiences intersect and their impact upon higher education. And we look to the future, drawing upon the strengths of our diverse communities, seeking to explore all that makes us unique and all that we share in order to find spaces for conversation, collaboration, and partnership.

We welcome proposals from all Warwick staff, students, and partners (industry, community and global) on the following topics:

• identities: student, academic, professional, departmental, institutional;
• liberation: equality, diversity and inclusion, safe spaces, ethics;
• creating change: transforming learning and changing cultures;
• being well: care, strength, empowerment;
• coming together: collaborations, partnerships and communities;
• futures: digital, sustainable, global.

How to submit a proposal

You will be notified as to whether your proposal is accepted for presentation at the conference no later than 11 March 2019.

Paper (30 minutes)

Papers will address one or more of the conference topics, should be evidence-informed and address implications for practice. We invite you to share work-in-progress as well as completed projects/research. The goal of these papers is to share knowledge and to encourage critical dialogue among conference participants. Presentations should therefore be limited to 20 minutes max, incorporating at least 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Please submit:

• title;
• abstract (100 words max) for each paper – this will be used in the conference programme;
• outline (500 words max) including: background/context, link to conference theme/s, evaluation, implications for practice, relevance to intended audience, and anticipated impact/outcome of session. All proposals should include at least one question for discussion.

Symposium (90 minutes)

A 90 minute symposium brings together 3 thematically linked papers with no more than 60 minutes used for presentations and at least 30 minutes for discussion. This may be configured as you wish.

Please submit:

• symposium title;
• abstract (100 words max) for the symposium – this will be used in the conference programme;
• outline (500 words max) this should include titles and brief abstracts for each paper, background/context, link to conference theme/s, evaluation, implications for practice, relevance to intended audience, and anticipated impact/outcome of session. All proposals should include at least one question for discussion.

Workshop (90 minutes)

Workshops are interactive sessions designed to facilitate dialogue, offer practical demonstration or give participants hands-on experience of workshop pedagogies. They may be exploratory sessions with emergent outcomes, but should have a clearly articulated evidence-base, rationale, and strategy for participant engagement.

Please submit:

• title;
• abstract (100 words max) – this will be used in the conference programme;
• outline (500 words max) to include details of workshop rationale, activities, anticipated outcomes, and implications for practice. You should also include details of background/context, link to conference theme/s, and relevance to intended audience.

Please note: a member of the Conference Committee will contact you to discuss the proposal in more detail.

Poster presentation (5 minute presentation, 5 minute Q&A)

Poster presentations will be run as scheduled, structured sessions. Small groups of delegates will be given 10 minutes with each poster, and presenters should prepare to speak to their poster and for a brief Q&A. We are particularly keen to receive proposals disseminating progress and evaluation on projects presented as work-in-progress at the 2018 conference.

TeachMeet (2 or 7 minutes)

TeachMeet presentations offer a straightforward opportunity for turbo-charged sharing of practice and experience. Tell us about your work in a micro-presentation (7 minutes) or a nano-presentation (2 minutes) to share practical, innovative and creative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment with colleagues across the university.

Review process

Submissions will be peer reviewed by multiple reviewers from different Faculties/Professional Services.

Proceedings

This year the Warwick Education Conference will be accompanied by a conference proceedings, to be published by the University. Selected submissions will be contacted following peer review to develop their proposed contributions into written articles as well as contributions to the conference.
