The opportunity: To strengthen European research bids
In 2013, a small group of Warwick research project managers identified an opportunity to reduce the amount of time spent by staff on getting 'up to speed' when preparing an EU funding bid, by sharing experience gained through previous applications.
The solution: Stop reinventing the wheel and share existing skills and knowledge
The Projects in Progress (PiPs) network was created by five dedicated staff who recognised the opportunity to make the most of existing best practice at Warwick. The network acts as a complementary network to Research Impact Services, and aims to strengthen the links between research project management and the financial and support services provided by RIS.
The group meets regularly throughout the year to discuss and make practical progress on issues concerning those who work on any European research project. Each meeting has a specific focus (such as timesheets, audits, finances, project management) and aims to make concrete progress. As each meeting is organised by a different group of network volunteers, and the agenda is set by the group at the previous meeting, the network is able to ensure variety and progression.
The outcome: A network of staff sharing skills and experience
This concept has grown and developed and is now a vibrant network of 75 staff from across the University who meet regularly throughout the year to discuss and make practical progress on issues concerning those who work on any European research project. Members include project managers, administrators, academics and principle investigators.
