Bone density screening

Bone density screening at the University of Warwick

Osteoporosis literally means ‘Porous Bones’. It occurs when the rate of bone renewal does not match the rate of breakdown eventually resulting in weak, brittle bones. Osteoporosis has no symptoms unless you break or fracture a bone and many people do not realise they have the condition until this happens. Too often, individuals are diagnosed with osteoporosis years after they have had the condition, if they are diagnosed at all.

Tracey Hunt, a qualified practitioner with over 18 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry, will be visiting the university on Wednesday 8 June 2022 offering bone density screening. The test is a heel quantitative ultrasound scan which provides an indicator of bone density and fracture risk.

The test will take place at the Games Hall on Westwood Campus and costs £35. Payment can be made at the end of your appointment by either cash or cheque.

Once the test is completed your results will be explained to you and you’ll receive an information pack containing nutrition, exercise and lifestyle advice to help you safeguard against the condition.

Your appointment will last approximately 15 minutes and, as part of Covid safety guidelines, you will be required to wear a mask during your appointment. To book an appointment email tracey@bonematters.org or call 07825 556740. For more information about Bone Matters visit their website
