World-class squash is coming to the University

Warwick Sport and the University of Warwick have been successful in a joint bid application with Kenilworth Squash Club to get a team into the Premier squash league (PSL). PSL, the best squash league in the world, is a tournament organised by England Squash where Clubs from around the country vie for the title of National Champions.

Teams play each other twice a season, home and away between September and April. Two other universities are part of the league, Birmingham and Nottingham with Nottingham current national champions

Steve Townsend from Kenilworth Squash Club is a well-respected coach in the England team set up and has a history of coaching some of the best players/youngsters in the UK. Sarah Jane Perry who is a Warwick graduate and also Squash world number 7 has indicated she wants to be involved in the team.

Steve Townsend, Head Squash Coach at Kenilworth Squash Club, said: “This is tremendously exciting for both The University of Warwick, and Kenilworth Squash Club. It gives the students of the University, and the members at Kenilworth world-class squash to see on their doorstep, and also the juniors something to aspire to. “We hope it will help attract elite squash playing students to our programme at Warwick, and know it will inspire our juniors at Kenilworth and in Warwickshire. We can’t wait to get going!”
