The Belgrade is the only professional theatre in Coventry, and is host to a variety of different performances including a number of visiting shows from London. It is located in the City Centre, beside a range of pubs, bars and restaurants and offers good student rates.

Coventry Cathedral is arguably the most famous landmark in Coventry, and certainly not to be missed. Here you can relax with friends in the old cathedral ruins, or visit the rebuild designed by Sir Basil Spence.

Head to Coventry Market for all of your student needs. Here you will find cheap DVDs, posters, art prints, world-foods, fresh fruit and veg, and fancy dress.

An independent bar located right beside the Herbert Art Gallery, Drapers is not your usual bar. In this modernist building you’ll find new artists exhibiting their work, regular ‘flea markets’ where you can find vintage clothing and cheap books, and a reasonably priced full English. Not to be missed.

Hay Lane is the perfect place to bring visitors for a bite to eat, or something to drink. Here you will find Pizza Express, a restaurant called Playwrights and a nice little café if you would prefer something lighter. It is located right beside the Cathedral, and close to the bus and train stations.

Herbert Art Gallery
If you are craving some culture, look no further than the Herbert. The permanent galleries feature work from the Old Masters, beautiful pieces of sculpture, historical articles from Coventry’s past and modern art amongst other things. There are also a number of temporary exhibitions which are certainly worth checking out. You will also find a bright modern café, and a shop selling postcards, posters and other nice things.

Ikea is the place to go for all of your student needs. Here you’ll find everything for student living, from cheap cutlery and plates, to duvets, desks and the obligatory trip to the Ikea café.

For inexpensive high street clothes, look no further than Primark. This is one of the biggest in the Midlands, and has a good selection of women’s and men’s clothing, as well as a good range of items for the home.

Spon Street is a beautiful medieval street hidden away from the city centre. A number of the houses have been relocated from around the city, following the attacks upon Coventry in 1940. Not only is this a stunning place to visit, but there are a variety of shops selling jewellery, art work, clothing as well as some lovely bars and pubs.

If you are looking for good-quality high street fashion, Topshop is the place to go. Constantly changing its clothing ranges, whether you are looking for something for the day or the evening, you will find something here. There is a good selection of men’s clothing, and they offer a student discount when you show your university card!

Town Wall Tavern
This is a traditional local pub, located just behind the Belgrade Theatre. The pub itself has three sections, one of which houses one of the smallest bars with hand-pull levers in the whole of Europe! They serve great food here, and its claim to fame is not only that Ian McKellan and Helen Mirren have enjoyed a drink here, but that the pub featured on Come Dine with Me. You can now order the winning menu and decide whether the pub landlord deserved to win.
