The University is deeply saddened by the news of the death of George Thorpe, former Head Porter, who sadly passed away on 24 November 2015.

George Thorpe started working for the University on 1 September 1980, and retired just over 29 years later in 2009, at 62 years old. He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and died peacefully aged 68. George's funeral was held on Friday, December 18 at St Nicholas Church Kenilworth.

He was probably at his most recognisable when he was wearing his bowler hat, leading the Degree Congregation Parade (picture right).

He will be missed by many staff and colleagues, as he was very popular and always went the extra mile.
