Dean is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Dean teaches a variety of mindfulness, psychology and coaching courses and modules. He has been a tutor at the centre for over 15 years, teaching on the Social Studies degree programmes, the certificate programme and a range of other programmes, initiatives, workshops, and sessions.

With a background in Psychology, Dean has taught at a variety of school, post-16, and adult education institutions. He has held a variety of roles, including being a Head of Department, a consultant in a large academy group and a private well-being and performance coach. Alongside his teaching commitments, he also leads mindfulness and well-being workshops for external organisations (e.g. Halfords, Tata Steel), other departments (e.g. CTE, WMG) and university-wide initiatives (e.g. Mental Health Day, Warwick in Africa, Coventry City of Culture). As a leading member of the Mindfulness Research Network at the university, he is involved in promoting mindfulness, organising conferences (including a national conference in 2017) and seeking funding opportunities for research in this area. In 2018 he was nominated for the Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) and in 2019 for the Warwick Award for Personal Tutoring Excellence (WAPTE). For the 2020-21 academic year he was nominated again for the WATE award.
