D

D
See dilution rate.
Dilution rate

Dilution rate (D) is defined as the rate of medium flow per unit volume of culture. It can be calculated:

D = F/V

Where F is the medium flow rate and V is the culture volume.

F

F
See Flow rate.
Flow rate
Flow rate (F) is defined as the rate of flow of culture through the chemostat and is measured in mLh-1. This is determined by adding the rate of medium flow into the vessel to the rate of addition of acid and/or base.

V

Volume
Volume (V) in terms of a chemostat refers to culture volume and not vessel volume.
