Background
I started my academic career at the University of Wales, Bangor where I gained a upper second class BSc (Hons) Psychology in 2006. After completion of my first degree I returned home to Warwickshire and won a bursary to study at Masters level at Aston University. In September 2007 I was awarded an MSc Health Psychology with merit. Both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are accredited by the British Psychological Society. I began my PhD at Warwick Medical School in October 2007 and am due to submit in September 2010.
I have conducted previous research in speech perception, attitudes to surrogacy, and access to services for sex workers. I have previously worked as a behavioural therapist with an autistic teenager and in various roles for Warwickshire County Council.

Online communication and the sharing of personal information over the Internet are essential aspects of modern society. The use of the Internet to enable access to information, advice and services has the potential to transform the ways that patients access the NHS, particularly primary care. However, robust evidence is needed of acceptability, safety, clinical and cost effectiveness, as well as equity, to inform policy and service development. NHS Direct Online is widely used for information & advice but lacks integration with mainstream primary care services, so limiting its impact on appointment systems and the use of NHS resources.
This study will test an innovative online approach to supporting self-assessment and self-care that will be integral to mainstream GP provision of services.
