Profile

As a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Applied Linguistics, at the University of Warwick, I was part of the ERC-funded DISCONEX project (2013-2018), which investigated how researchers do research in the social sciences and humanities (SSH). This project was located at Warwick (UK) and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris.
I am a member of DiscourseNet, the International Association for Discourse Studies, a community that brings together discourse analysts from the social sciences and humanities in several countries, and currently I am the editor and translator of the Spanish version of discourseanalysis.net
Before coming to Warwick, I studied linguistics in Mexico and semiotics in Estonia, where I obtained an MA at the University of Tartu.

Research

My research is primarily in the areas of discourse analysis and semiotics. I study how semiotics scholars experience the field of semiotics through the construction of different representations and narratives about the academic practice of semiotics, under which conditions they generate them, and what are the discourses they create. By using a narrative approach, I explore locally co-constructed narratives in order to explain how forty interviewees take up multiple acts of positioning and negotiate different aspects of their identity with me as interviewer.

I address this topic using research interviews and linguistic analysis of unfolding interactions. For this analysis, I use a toolkit that consists of different strands of narrative positioning theory (Bamberg, 1997; Wortham, 2000, Søreide, 2006 and Deppermann, 2015).

My PhD project was supervised by Johannes Angermuller.
