Transformations Summer School

This summer (7th and 8th August 2017) sees the re-launch of the Transformations Summer School; a two-day educational event developed by the Department of Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick, and targeted at year 9 and 10 pupils with a keen interest and ability in English. The Summer School programme forms part of a broader school-based Transformations tutorial programme, known as the Transformations Project, that places teams of trained undergraduate tutors with small groups of aspiring school pupils to help them develop critical thinking, with a view to boosting their performance in English and helping them secure places at universities like Warwick. We are always looking to welcome new schools to the Transformations Project and are keen to expand in 2017 -2018 after the success of the project thus far. As such we are currently looking to invite English pupils who would benefit from spending two days in August working closely with a team of professional storytellers, academic staff and theatre practitioners in exploring fairytales and story-telling through drama-based activities. Over the course of two days, a group of up to thirty participants will complete a series of workshops which have been designed to introduce innovative ways of engaging with and adapting texts for modern audiences. As such we are keen to recruit aspiring English pupils who are considering a future in Higher Education. This event would be best suited to pupils who are comfortable working in small groups and participating in drama activities and performances. The event is provided free of cost to all participants, although we ask that parents provide a packed lunch. Places are limited and demand is high, so we'll be sending out letters and application forms to Transformations project contacts/Heads of English after half term, and look forward to receiving replies as soon as possible.
