Some of the brightest young minds from around the world will gather at the University of Warwick to discuss how to solve some of the biggest challenges facing the globe.

Warwick undergraduate Sana Mittar, 19, from New Delhi, has received a prestigious Diana Award in recognition of her work supporting vulnerable communities in India during the pandemic. Established in 1999 in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, The Diana Award scheme recognises young people between 9 and 25 who are going above and beyond in their daily life to create and sustain positive change through social action or humanitarian work.

The Black Mind Initiative aims to reform the current mental health system nationally, by encouraging young Black people to take up a degree related to the mental health profession, the initiative will then support them in their studies and encourage them to work in senior roles in mental healthcare.

The Crisis Project: Letters to the NHS was set up by first year University of Warwick Maths Student Soumya Krishna Kumar, in a bid to encourage members of the public to write bespoke letters to keyworkers, recognising them for their individual efforts during the pandemic.

Unitemps, part of Warwick Employment Group, has extended its network to include Liverpool John Moores University. This will be the 17th university to join the franchise network which offers a temporary recruitment service for students, graduates and the wider community.

Researchers at the University of Warwick have launched a fifth wave of their unique Futuretrack survey, a UK-wide project following undergraduates who took up their university places in 2006 or in 2007 (after a gap year) to get a clear picture of the opportunities and obstacles faced by the generation of students who graduated just after the 2008 financial crisis – and they want to encourage as many previous participants as possible to get back in touch.

The University of Warwick will be able to bring its successful education programme, Warwick in Africa, to Kenya for the first time thanks to the support of the COSARAF Foundation.

Four Warwick students have been recognised as champions of social mobility at the inaugural Student Social Mobility Awards, hosted by Baroness Helena Kennedy in the House of Lords on December 13. The Awards were organised by upReach, supported by the Social Mobility Commission, to showcase the achievements of students and 2018 graduates from less advantaged backgrounds.

A University of Warwick student has become the junior World Field Archery Champion.

Students from the University of Warwick were among the volunteers working to clear a stretch of the Grand Union Canal in Leamington Spa at the weekend.

In addition to tyres, fishing line and plastic bags, the team pulled three motorbikes, 28 bicycles and 40 shopping trolleys from the watery depths.

The brightest undergraduate researchers from across the planet will share their research at the fifth International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) – founded by the award-winning Monash Warwick Alliance – later this month.
