Rename a page

When you rename a page, you change the URL (web address) of every sub-page and file below.

Note: Renaming a page does not rename any links in your body content. Therefore, we recommend you check for broken links after renaming a page.

  1. Browse to the page you want to rename.

  2. Go to Edit > More:

The SiteBuilder 'Edit' menu, with the 'More' option highlighted

  3. On the Current page tab, select Rename this page:

The 'Current page' tab in SiteBuilder, with the 'Rename this page' option highlighted

  4. Enter the page's new name in the New URL box:

    The 'Rename page' screen

  5. To automatically redirect visitors to the new URL, select Forward requests for the old address on to the new address. Doing so creates a Forwarding page at the old location and prevents visitors seeing a 'Page not found' error message.

  6. Choose how search engines index the renamed page(s) by selecting an option from the Allow search engines:

    • Keep current settings

    • Hide renamed pages in searches

    • Show renamed pages in searches

Your choice also applies to all pages and files under the current page.

  7. Choose the Permissions for the renamed pages by selecting an option from the drop-down list:

    • Keep current settings: Copied pages will have the same permissions settings as the original version.

    • Remove view permissions from renamed pages: View permissions for the copy pages are removed, meaning that they cannot be viewed by users without higher-level permissions. Contributor, edit and admin permissions are not affected.

  8. Select Rename page.

Important: If you rename a page to the URL of a deleted page, this will overwrite the deleted page and purge it along with all its subpages. You will see a warning message in Sitebuilder after you select the Rename button if you attempt to overwrite a deleted page. You should continue only if you are happy to permanently delete the deleted page as purged pages cannot be restored.
